Meet Our Team

Mr. Dayton founded CESI in 2000. His experience includes leadership positions in both the energy development and non-profit sectors. He began his career as an engineering section head in a Raytheon laboratory and was subsequently promoted to the corporate staff. He left Raytheon to found a series of small technical businesses. One of these, the non-profit Technical Development Corporation (TDC) in Boston, performed many innovative projects in energy conservation, criminal justice and job creation, and set up a number of other corporations in its fields of interest. During that period, Mr. Dayton served as president of many public policy, health, cultural, and community organizations in Massachusetts, receiving several appointments by past governors to chair advisory boards and state councils.

In 1982, Mr. Dayton founded his second company, Select Energy Services, Inc. (SESI; formerly HEC Inc.) and served as chairman until its acquisition by Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) in 1990. As a Director from 1990 until his retirement in 2002, he led the company's acquisition program and its development of new energy services in new markets. SESI became one of the largest ESCOs in the U.S., installing over a billion dollars of energy-efficiency improvements in some of the country's leading institutional, government, and commercial facilities.

Mr. Dayton next served as President of Energia Global International Ltd., for two years and on its Board for ten years, leading up to its acquisition by ENEL, the world's largest publicly-traded electric utility. He wrote much of the business plans for EGI's successful development of the environmentally-prudent renewable energy projects in Latin America.

Mr. Dayton has spoken and published widely on energy efficiency and was on the Energy Task Force of the President's Commission on Environmental Quality, served two years as President of the National Association of Energy Service Companies, and two years on the Executive Committee of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). He was also a co-founder of GreenerU and continues as a director of this campus energy and sustainability contractor.  He is considered by many to be a leader in the evolution of the energy services industry.

Mr. Dayton received a B.S.E.E. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.

Outside of clean energy, Dave's interests are his family (now numbering 25 and growing), sports, music, and writing under the pen name David Sayre. 

Mr. Morgan is President of CESI. He has worked closely with local communities to plan and launch comprehensive energy efficiency programs, including Cambridge, Cincinnati and Charlottesville.  He and his colleagues address program design, determine marketing plans, qualify and oversee technical contractors, and assist in arranging financing for their clients.  He speaks and writes regularly on these topics, as well as on compatible utility program incentives and energy performance contracting. 

Prior to joining CESI in the 2007, Mr. Morgan was Vice-President of AMERESCO, where he led the nation's largest energy services company division solely dedicated to serving multifamily buildings. His work at AMERESCO led to over $175 million in energy efficiency investments in the past ten years.  He led that company’s efforts to integrate asthma mitigation interventions with energy measures at three housing authorities in New England and is now working with the New York City Housing Authority on a similar initiative.

Mr. Morgan has served as Board Treasurer of the National Association of Energy Services Companies (NAESCO) and is currently serving on the Board of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE). Mr. Morgan also enjoys a national reputation in electric and gas utility energy efficiency program design and early implementation assistance. He has testified before Congressional Subcommittees on renewable energy issues and has provided energy efficiency consulting services to Fannie Mae, the Ford Foundation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and both public and investor-owned utilities.

Mr. Morgan holds a BA and a Masters in Education degrees from Harvard University as well as a Ph.D in Policy, Planning and Administration from Brandeis University.  He now lives in the District of Columbia several months a year. 

When not taking care of his three young grandchildren with his wife Patricia, Steve enjoys playing and watching entirely too many sports to mention and reading American histories and biographies of the 18th and early 19th centuries.

John joined CESI in 2011 and has assisted more than a dozen clients in assessing energy conservation opportunities and projecting costs and savings, He has served as an owner’s agent for a local government,  public housing authorities, affordable housing organizations, and county buildings.  He led CESI’s work with the Holyoke, MA municipal electric utility in its review of energy efficiency programs.  He also managed CESI’s work in the development of a Local Energy Assurance Plan for Wilmington, NC. He served in an owner’s agent capacity for the Marin, CA Housing Authority and for no fewer than five assisted housing properties in Virginia and Rhode Island.  He is now acting as an owner’s agent for the City of Annapolis, MD in their energy performance contracting solicitation and as the technical analyst for Urban Ingenuity, the administrator for the Property Assessed Clean Energy program in Washington, DC.

John brings to CESI many years of experience in the development and implementation of strategies to address energy investment opportunities throughout the United States, particularly in multifamily housing. He formerly worked for Ameresco, Inc. and EUA Citizens Conservation Services, Inc. His experience includes oversight of energy studies, measure analysis for savings calculations, project cash flow development, construction management, utility program management, and evaluation, measurement, and verification protocols. Early in his career, John weatherized homes, installed solar and fossil fuel heating equipment, and helped to construct passive solar homes.

John holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Westfield State College.

When he isn't providing CESI with technical expertise, John enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, taking long walks, reading, and watching college basketball. 

Nora originally joined CESI in 2010 to manage multiple municipal energy efficiency programs in the Southeast and US Virgin Islands as part of a DOE Better Buildings grant.  After a brief hiatus to raise her young children she rejoined the team in 2019 to work with the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) among other partners such as Metro Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) and Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) to facilitate LED streetlight conversions across Maryland and Virginia through a Department of Energy (DOE) competitive grant. 

Prior to joining CESI, Nora managed multiple incentive programs in Washington, DC to mitigate the negative impacts of stormwater runoff through green infrastructure measures such as vegetated green roofs and rain gardens. 

Nora holds a Bachelor of Arts in American History from the University of the South (Sewanee) and Masters in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.

When she isn’t working with CESI, Nora is parenting her two young girls, teaching yoga, working on her farm or volunteering with the Town of Davidson where she is an active member of the planning board.

Carol manages accounting, human resources, and IT for CESI, and provides direct support to the senior management. 

Prior to joining CESI in the fall of 2006, Carol was Manager of Administrative Services at Select Energy Services, Inc. In that capacity, she was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources, including development and implementation of policies and procedures, hiring and performance reviews, employee relations, and benefits administration. She managed all corporate lines of insurance and the IT department.

When she isn't at the office, Carol enjoys running, practicing and teaching yoga, and hiking.
